A wireless sensor network is a distributed, self-organizing network of sensors, interconnected by a radio channel. Wireless sensor networks are the most advanced technology in the field of self-organizing monitoring and control systems for various processes in industrial facilities. Currently, the issue of creating new spatially-distributed wireless sensor networks for monitoring the concentration of explosive and dangerous gasses at industrial facilities in the oil and gas and chemical industries is urgent.
A wireless sensor network is a collection of computing devices that are connected to a self-organizing network using a radio channel. As a rule, modern wireless sensor nodes in industrial infrastructure objects consist of a transceiver, a gas sensor, an intelligent power source, based on alternative energy sources, and low-power microcontrollers. Developed industrial wireless systems include universal gas sensors that have a single digital protocol and a data exchange interface, one set of commands, setup, calibration, and verification methods. In industrial facilities, such sensory networks are installed together with a universal software and hardware complex for data collection and analysis.
To realize the hardware and software complex for collecting and analyzing wireless sensor network data, a central high-performance server is required, to which a USB-Zigbee transceiver module is connected. The network server application has the functions of analyzing, collecting and processing information in real time. The application on the operator’s server allows you to visually display the received data from several sensor nodes in the form of interactive graphs with the possibilities of automatic scaling, as well as obtaining information in digital format. Additional functions enable the server operator to remotely modify or update the remote software. The application allows the operator to create his own set of rules for analyzing the information received. The results of industrial monitoring are collected in the following ways: according to the schedule, on request from the operator and on request from mobile devices, in a case of emergency. In the first case, the information from the controllers and terminals is transmitted to the central server of the operator at certain times in accordance with the schedule for the transition of the sensor nodes to the “active” state and collecting the readings from the sensors.
In other periods of time, the sensor nodes are in a “sleep” mode of reduced power consumption. In the second case, the dispatcher makes an address or broadcast poll of sensory nodes to collect the required information. In the third case, the survey is performed by initiating the collection of information from the nodes through the dispatch server, or by local polling the nodes from the mobile device in the radio access zone. In the event of a superfluous situation, the activation of the “sleeping” nodes and the transfer of information with the coordinates of the place of occurrence of the emergency event are performed by the nodes independently. The event is registered on the server and written to the database, then the data is transferred to the managers. Additional functions of the hardware and software complex allow the server operator to select data from sensor devices using various parameters, both in real time and at certain intervals. Using the data sampling, the server operator is able to prepare and generate a monitoring progress report. The program allows to remotely update software from touch devices. The software supports alarms management functions, for cases of receiving critical data from sensor devices.
At present, modern technologies allow creating an elemental base for the implementation of optimal circuit-making and technological solutions for the creation of a wireless sensor network using high-sensitivity gas sensors. The specific software helps to create a highly functional both software and hardware complex for data collection and analysis of the wireless sensor network of gas sensors to ensure the industrial safety.
